The Silvermine School of Art continues its legacy of art education by offering programs for students of all ages, in all levels of proficiency from beginner to advanced. The award-winning School is the preeminent learning destination for visual arts in Fairfield County, Connecticut with more than 4,000 enrollments and over 1,100 courses, workshops and youth programs held throughout the year. The School provides a nurturing environment, unstructured enough to encourage creativity, yet disciplined enough to provide a solid foundation. Students and professional artists alike can work on projects, share ideas, explore new areas and grow in their understanding and immersion in the arts.

Code of Conduct

Silvermine School of Art reserves the right to require the withdrawal of any student whose conduct is deemed inappropriate.

General Registration Policies

  • Registration Fee: Each term, a $35 non-refundable registration fee is charged. There is no registration fee for one-day or two-day workshops. A registration fee is applied to workshops which are 3 or more days in length.
  • Enrollment: For courses to be conducted, a minimum enrollment is required. In addition, there can be a maximum enrollment based on the studio size, equipment and the instructor’s requirements.
  • Withdrawals: Withdrawals must be made within office hours Monday – Friday, 9AM – 5PM. Any withdrawals made outside of that time period may be ineligible for a refund or credit.
  • Waitlists: We highly recommend students to place themselves on waitlists for any fully enrolled courses or workshops. The School will call waitlisted students in chronological order when/if a seat becomes available.
  • Absences & Make-Ups: Make-ups are scheduled in the event of weather cancellations, or other unexpected circumstances. A refund is not available if a student cannot attend an officially scheduled make-up date. Silvermine will not pro-rate any tuition costs for absences. Students who cannot attend a scheduled program, may not substitute another person in their place.
 

Course or Workshop Changes

The School reserves the right to change its calendar, withdraw or modify courses or workshops and to use substitute instructors, as needed. Classes or workshops cancelled due to bad weather or instructor’s absence will be rescheduled according to studio availability.
  • Weather: Please visit our website, silvermine.org for announcements regarding cancellations. The office will send out notifications to students prior to cancellations, delays or make-ups.
  • Warning Emails: The School office will send warning emails regarding a course or workshop that may be at risk of cancellation due to low enrollment, prior to cancellation.
  • Cancellations: If a course or workshop is cancelled due to low enrollment, notice will be given two to three days prior to the start date. A refund or credit will be provided.
 

Reimbursements Options

Refunds
  • A refund is a reimbursement to the original form of payment.
  • When it is no longer possible to issue a reimbursement to the original form of payment, a check will be provided.
Credits
  • A Silvermine credit is applied to student accounts in place of a refund and is available for use towards another course, workshop or private lesson.
  • Credits are valid for a period of one year from the date it was issued.
  • Credits are issued when a withdrawal occurs past the refund deadline.
  • Credits can only be used by the student to which it was issued and/or the members included in their family account.
 

Reimbursement for Courses

Refunds
  • Registration fees are non-refundable
  • The student must notify the School Office one week (7 calendar days) prior to the scheduled first class meeting date in order to receive a refund for withdrawal.
  • No refunds or credits will be given for any reason after the second class meets.
Credits
  • A student can only receive a credit to their Silvermine account, when withdrawing from a course less than 7 days prior to the start date.
  • A pro-rated tuition fee will be credited to a student’s account when withdrawing after the start date of the course, only if notification is given to the School Office before the second class meets.
  • No refunds or credits will be given for any reason after the second class meets.
 

Reimbursements for Workshops

Refunds
  • A confirmation email is shared three days prior to the start date of any workshop. No refunds or credits are available after this point.
  • Refunds can be issued if a student withdraws prior to the delivery of the confirmation email, less any non-refundable registration fee.
Credits

Raku & Soda Firing Workshops
  • Withdrawals from a Raku or Soda Firing workshop must be made 14 days prior to the workshop start date to receive a refund.
  • No reimbursements of any kind will be issued when a withdrawal occurs less than 14 days prior to the start date of the workshop.
 

Reimbursements for Summer Art Studios

Refunds
  • A student must notify the School Office at least 14 calendar days prior to the start date of the Summer Art Studio in order to receive a refund for withdrawal, minus the registration fee.
  • No refunds will be given for withdrawal on/after the start date of the Summer Art Studio.
Credits
  • If the student notifies the School Office to withdraw within the 14-day period of the start date, only a credit to your Silvermine account will be granted, minus the registration fee.
  • Students who register 14 days or less before the start date of the Summer Art Studio, and withdraw, can only receive a credit to their Silvermine account.
 

Pictures Taken & Used

  • Silvermine Arts Center occasionally documents classes using photographs and videos for publicity purposes.
  • These images are used in the digital Course Catalog, social media, Annual Report, and other publicity platforms to benefit the school.
  • Registration assumes permission to photograph you and/or your work, and to use your image in publicity platforms, unless you inform the photographer.
  • If you prefer that Silvermine Arts Center not to photograph you or your child for publicity purposes, please notify the School Office at the time of registration.
