Artist Statement:I see painting portraits as a bit like creating a short film on canvas. The painter is distilling expressions from the sitter over a space of time but these are contained in one still image. I think a portrait works best when you feel the sitter’s thoughts are unfolding in front of you, replaying moments of themselves in time.
